Mindy Sherk is the artist behind Oyster Bleu Designs, creating refined oyster shell art, richly textured canvas pieces, and hands-on creative classes in Huntsville, Alabama.

Each piece and each experience celebrate texture, transformation, and the beauty found in what remains. Her mission is simple: create beauty, share the process, and help people surprise themselves.

About Mindy

Art has always been part of my life. As a little girl, you could usually find me with a pencil in hand, carefully shading and sketching for hours. I explored pottery, painting, and eventually cosmetology. What I used to call my “other life.”

But through every season, one thing has remained true:

If I’m not creating, I’m not my happiest self.

A few years ago, I realized art wasn’t just something I enjoyed; it was something I truly loved. It fills me in a way nothing else does.

How Oyster Bleu Began

Several years ago, I was shopping in a small boutique and noticed oyster shells being sold in a simple box. I remember thinking, I could do so much more with those.

With Christmas approaching, I ordered a batch of oyster shells and began experimenting. Decoupaging them, layering texture, and adding gold accents. What started as a creative idea quickly became something more. The shells were beautiful. The response from the people who received them was even more beautiful.

And just like that, Oyster Bleu Designs was born.

Artistry in Every Shell

Why Oyster Shells?

Each oyster shell is naturally imperfect. Worn, textured, uniquely shaped by the ocean.

To me, they are tiny blank canvases waiting to tell a new story. No two are alike, and that’s what makes them so
special.

I also love that they come from the ocean. Having lived in Florida, the coast has always felt like home to me.

Working with shells keeps that peaceful, salt-air feeling close, even here in Huntsville.

The Creative Process

Creating with oyster shells is incredibly calming. The process is slow, thoughtful, almost meditative. Watching a shell transform into something refined and meaningful never gets old.

When I paint, I’m drawn to color, texture, layering, blending and finding inspiration in faith, nature, memories,
and everyday beauty.

At the heart of it all, I create because I love seeing joy on someone’s face, whether they’re receiving a piece or
making one themselves.

Teaching & Sharing

One of my favorite parts of this journey has been teaching classes.

People often come in thinking it will be complicated or intimidating. But once they begin, they quickly realize
how relaxing and approachable the process is. Watching someone create something they didn’t think they could, feels almost like pure magic to me.

Some want to keep their piece forever. Others can’t wait to gift it. Either way, they leave proud and that’s what matters.

When you see or hold a piece from Oyster Bleu Designs, I hope you see the beauty in imperfection.

I hope you’re reminded that something once overlooked can become something extraordinary.

I hope you feel peace.
I hope you feel joy.
And most of all, I hope you feel like you’re holding something meaningful. Something created from what remains and made beautiful again.
